What’s new

Happy to announce my newest cookbook ‘Veggies & Fish’ is out now in the Netherlands and Belgium!

With vegetables and fish you can vary endlessly. In my new book I will show you how to cook with fish in a fun and good way, with vegetables as the star of the show. Veggies & Fish brings together the tasty and healthy worlds of vegetables and fish in over 80 fantastic recipes!

who is bart?

It all started by the love for cooking and eating seafood. When I realized over 12 years ago most of our oceans are fished to the limit or overfished I started to travel in the search for the most sustainable fishing communities on the globe. I lived, fished and cooked together with dozens of lovely fisheries to learn and understand how we should consume seafood for the future. It’s much fun to do!

In short, you can say I am a seafood chef who shares his search for the best fish recipes, a passionate sustainable fishing advocate who shares his adventurous fishing stories and an entrepreneur who makes the best sustainable seafood products accessible.

My passion for seafood

Where did I get this passion for fish? People often ask me but I really don’t know exactly when it started. I can certainly remember as a young boy being fascinated by the huge palters of fruits de mer that were brought to the table when we holidayed in Paris each year.

What made a very big impression on me was wandering around markets on holiday, and I was particularly taken with the boats moored in the harbor behind the market. And then a little later a fresh fish – friend quickly served with a slice of lemon – in a noisy local bar. So simple, yet so delicious.

Books

Since 2009 I share my journey, travels and recipes in cookbooks I write. Writing and developing recipes is a great thing to do and am very grateful many of them are internationally published and awarded. My latest tinned fish cookbook just came out and currently I am busy writing my next project: veggie’s & fish to be released in the Netherlands end of 2020.

Bart’s fish tales

It was early 2014 when we launched the world’s shortest cooking show on instagram. Here you’ll find super short recipe videos of me cooking at the fisheries itself. A few months later I was approached by the one and only jamie oliver who asked me to join his food tube network cooking channel (youtube). This also was the base to start my own youtube channel. At bart’s fish tales you will find all kind of seafood recipes, fishing behind the scenes and tips & tricks.

The fish tales brand

Often, I was asked by fishing communities I travelled to and fished with if I could possibly support them to get more market access to consumers interested in sustainability. This was the reason to start Fish Tales. A seafood brand with a story. 100% sustainable, 100% traceable, 100% delicious.

At Fish Tales we sell fresh, smoked, frozen and canned seafood to retail and foodservice in The Netherlands, Germany, United Kingdom, Belgium and Switzerland. And since December 2020 you will not only find our seafood products on the shelves in Europe but also in the US, where we are known as Sea Tales. A dream come true! Together with my business partner Harm Jan van Dijk we manage a fun company with currently 16 employees. I am proud of what the team has achieved so far. The more we can expand the more we can let the sustainable seafood consumption increase.
